Wicklow U-15 A Shield Final Ballinakill

Bray Emmets 3-07 Arklow Parnells 2-09

The U -15 Hurlers brought their competitive season to a close in windy, bright conditions on Sunday in Ballinakill with a fine, hard fought win against Arklow Parnells in the A shield final. Opting to play with the wind in the first half, Emmets started brightly, and moving the ball quickly and accurately put Arklow Parnells under early pressure that soon brought scores. Brian opened the scoring with a close-in free, and Rory’s hard work was rewarded with two well struck scores from play. AP replied with a free, and then Emmets took over. The backs were providing good ball into the forwards and Zack was causing mayhem in front of goal. By half time he had 1-02 to his name and had a goal disallowed for a questionable square ball. Sam and Peter shrugged off the attentions of their markers and stamped their authority on the middle third, with Sam hitting two excellent goals. Emmets were on top all over the pitch. Adam was sure in defence and delivered very good ball forward and Cathal’s well struck puck outs and sensible use of ball by the backs meant that every AP attack was used as a springboard for the Emmets efforts. The defensive work by the forwards was excellent with Rian and Rory showing excellent work. A fortunate goal for AP following a mix up in defence, and a second free closed the gap, but the sides went to half time with Emmets well in control 3-05 to 1-02.

The strength of the wind blowing straight down the pitch became obvious as AP inched their way back into the game accumulating five points from frees and play, to two hard won points from Luan and Oscar. Aaron O R, Jack, Tadhg and Jamie did trojan work and Dan F cleared an amount of ball. Aaron O DR and Daniel M came on to play their part, and Emmets battled hard to work the ball against the gusty wind. As the Emmets lads tired, AP found the net again with a lofted ball into a melee in the square and 2 further points left the minimum between the sides. Showing great tenacity and character, the Emmets lads battled on and Eddie Leonard ‘s final whistle, following a final AP attack was greeted with delight by the Emmets lads.

All 17 lads were excellent today, and Jack T picked up the official Man of the Match award.
