West Wicklow Historical Society  Launch Journal N0 9

The West Wicklow Historical Society launched their Journal No 9 on Tuesday 7 November at Dunlavin Library (Market House) at 8pm.  Councillor Edward Timmins, Chairman of Wicklow County Council, will perform the launch.

The journal will feature two articles by Hollywood historians Johnny Glennon and Brendan Corrigan.  Johnny has written an extended review of Brendan History of Hollywood in which he gives his assessment of the book and adds some material of his own.  Brendan himself has contributed an article on The Boystown Lordship

1650-1850 which gives an account of the landlords and principal tenants of the Humphreystown, Tulfarris and Baltyboys area during that period.  The Journal also features an article on the Dublin to Blessington tram written by James Scannell.

Edited by Chris Lawlor and Donal McDonnell, Journal No. 9 also contains articles on such diverse subjects as sheep wash holes, wool weaving in the 1820s, the Plymouth Brethren in Baltinglass, medieval crescent stones, and the financial impact of the Civil War on West Wicklow in 1922-1923.

Containing 170 pages and selling at €10 the new Journal will make an ideal Christmas present, especially for local people living abroad.
