Greystones TD Minister Simon Harris has today received confirmation from Irish Rail that they will not close the station building as prosposed. Speaking as he confirmed the news, Minister Simon Harris said:
“Following a hard fought campaign, I am delighted to confirm that Irish Rail have now agreed to not close the Greystones Train Station building to public access. When I learned of the proposals by Irish Rail, I immediately contacted the Chief Executive and arranged to meet with him.Having held a number of meetings with the Greystones business community and concerned residents, it was clear to me that the proposals made by Irish Rail would have a very significant impact on our town.
“This is really positive news for Greystones. I want to thank the local businesses who supported my campaign by accepting petition booklets and I also want to thank Greystones residents who signed my online petition in their thousands. I presented Irish Rail with both the petition and the many letters of support that I received from local people. I am delighted that my concerns, and those of the people of Greystones were taken on board. Our train station is an integral part of the town and I am delighted that this ridiculous proposal will not go ahead.
