Gardai in Arklow are investigating a break-in at a hardware store on the Emoclew road.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday morning.
The raiders forced their way into the store and caused a considerable amount of damage to the office areas but failed to take any stock.
Considerable damage was also caused at Arklow Celtic Football Club, Gardai believe the two incidents are connected.
Club Secretary Peter Walker said “All the electrics around the club house and lights have been cut and holes have been cut in the fences, it is an expense that the club just can’t afford.”
Local Councillor Pat Fitzgerald condemned the action of the perpetrators saying “Arklow Celtic have been the target for criminal activity a number of times now, and it is soul destroying for a club that is helping in the community, the damage caused is expected to cost a couple of thousand euro and I am calling for anyone who may have any information no matter how small to contact the gardai.”
Gardai are currently viewing CCTV from the area and are appealing to anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the area prior to 3am on Thursday morning to contact Arklow garda station at 040232304.
