Tomorrow there will be a very different launch from Arklow Lifeboat station. Arklow Woman Mary Nolan Hickey will set off on a running trip round Ireland, quite literally a lap of the map.
Mary, who is veteran international runner has completed 38 marathons, run across the Sahara Desert and will now in her 65th year takes on the challenge of running a full lap of the map of Ireland to raise funds and awareness for the brave men and women of Irelands RNLI Lifeboat Service .
During this run which will run into months, Mary will travel up hill and down dale in all parts of Irelands coastal roads and laneways, Mary will like our crews around the coast battle tough weather conditions and terrain, our crew at Arklow RNLI and our wider community are 100% behind Mary and we’re asking all of our volunteers and supporters nationwide along with all of our colleagues, friends and families in all of the other services to get on board and show your support for Mary’s run.
Lets spread the word to all of the groups and Lifeboat Stations, harbours etc around our coast, mary will need support on way, somewhere to put her head down each night, so lets get onboard and do the little things you or your community can do to help Mary achieve a full lap of the map and up to 5,000km.
Mark Corcoran said “All of us at Arklow RNLI are very proud of and fully behind Mary, we’d like to encourage all of our fellow volunteers right around the coast to get on board and see what they can do to assist Mary in her goal, I am contactable at 00353- 86 8260439 if any wants to speak about getting onboard in any small way or you can talk to Mary’s team direct, all details are on the website”
Mary will start her journey at 9am on New Years morning from the Arklow lifeboat station and will head to Greystones for the first stage of her epic journey.
