Wicklow SPCA issues advice for Christmas

Wicklow SPCA has issued advice for people thinking about getting a pet for Christmas.

Taking a new pet into your life is a commitment from anywhere between 10 to 20 years. With all the hustle and bustle of Christmas, it may not be the best time of the year to bring a pet into the home.

Plenty of spare time and patience are required which may be absent over the hectic holidays. There is also the danger of ending up with an “unwanted gift”.

Over the year, WSPCA have seen an influx of puppies surrendered to them once the novelty of the new addition wears off.

An animal companion can bring great joy and rewards to any family, but WSPCA asks that you think about your new addition before you get him/her. If you decide to get a pet for Christmas, WSPCA also asks you to adopt one from a rescue.
