Baltinglass Municipal District have raised concerns that social housing built in the Blessington area will be given to people on the Kildare housing list.
At the County Municipal District meeting yesterday, Councillor Gerry O’Neill said he was worried that, even though they will be built in Blessington, the houses will be offered to those on the Kildare social housing list due to part of Blessington being in Kildare.
“Because these houses will be built technically in Kildare the 10% of social units within these new developments could go to people on the Kildare Housing list” he said.
Under the current Blessington Local Area Plan, 306 new housing units are to be built in the area with 10% of these being social housing.
However, Cllr. O’Neill fears that the over 600 people on the Blessington housing list will not be offered accomodation due to the location technicality
O’neill added that he would be raising these concerns at the next district meeting which will be attended by officials from Wicklow County Council.
He hopes Wicklow County Council will reach out to Kildare County Council to clarify their position.
