Two Wicklow Rural Projects to receive Government funding

Two projects in Wicklow have been granted €151,000 as part of the Outdoor Recreational Infrastructure Scheme announced yesterday.

The  Minister for Rural and Community Development, Michael Ring, approved €2.2million in funding for 32 projects, which includes The Vartry Reservoir Walks and The Wicklow Cliff Walk.

The Varty Reservoir is to receive €76,000 for the construction of a boardwalk bridge, while the Wicklow Cliff Walk has been given €75,000 to upgrade and extend the looped walk.

Wicklow TD Minister Simon Harris has said “improving recreational facilities is key to encouraging people to take advantage of our beautiful amenities in Co Wicklow”. Harris promised that the Government will continue to prioritise projects that support the tourism industry which is so vital to rural Ireland.

TD Andrew Doyle was delighted that the projects had received funding and said “well done to the teams involved in these initiatives. The completion of the loop walks around the lakes, will benefit the community.”
