Virgin Media today announced that Arklow is the first town this year to benefit from their FREE Public Wifi located on the Main Street between Coomie Lane and Condren’s Lane Upper. The move forms part of Virgin Media’s network expansion which will also provide new digital services for the residents of Arklow.
From today, Virgin Media is switching on free public Wifi to provide social and economic benefits to shoppers, tourists, students and the general public in Arklow.
Cathaoirleach of Arklow Municipal District Cllr. Tommy Annesley said: “On behalf of the Arklow Town Team I welcome this development. The significant investment by Virgin Media clearly has a positive impact for consumers and businesses in Arklow as it will benefit the local economy, while creating clear social benefits through improved speed, productivity and competition to Arklow and its citizens.”
Paul Farrell, Vice President of Commercial at Virgin Media, said: “We are delighted to be able to provide Irelands fastest and best Wifi to Arklow town Centre and part the roll out of our broadband and TV services to homes and businesses in the town.
“We’ve seen what free Public Wifi can do for towns, as evident from our rollout in Gorey before Christmas where over 400,000Mb of data has been used by members of the general public since its launch. To put that into perspective, that’s the equivalent of sending over 140,000 emails, viewing 1,000,000 webpages, streaming 70,000 minutes of music and watching over 6,000 minutes of HD Video with some Mb’s to spare.
“Our award winning speed is made possible through our network investment program. Today’s announcement is the first this year and we’re thrilled to be able introduce FREE Public Wifi in Arklow and hope it will encourage more people to spend time in the town throughout 2018, confident they can stay connected with Virgin Media WiFi.”
