Wicklow Gators under-14 boys remain undefeated and top of the league after recording their 10th win of the season against Kilcock Basketball Club.
The Gators got off to a great start with Scott Fitzpatrick scoring eight points and Peter Dunne scoring four early on. High pressure defence by the Gators and excellent rebounding by Mark Cronin and Georoid Murphy kept Kilcock scoreless in the first quarter.
Starting off the second quarter 12-0 up, Senan Rogan and Adam Tighe quickly added their names to the scoresheet and stretched the Gators lead and the solid pressure on the ball by Conor Mitchell kept Kilcock’s scoring low.
Perfection from the free throw line from Jack Kinnane ended the second quarter with the score 23-6 in Wicklow’s favour.
Kilcock picked up their defence and put pressure on the ball in the third quarter but the Gator’s point guards Zac Hastie and Peter Dunne controlled the offence.
The Gators decided to change their offensive play which opened up Kilcock’s defence and left space for Mark Cronin to drive straight for the basket and pick up nine points. The fast hands and turnovers by Jack Hick, Jack Kinnane and Padraig Doyle led to further scores by Scott Fitzpatrick, Peter Dunne and Senan Rogan off the fast break.
The Gators finished out the game strong with further scoring by Adam Tighe and Senan Rogan. A huge defensive effort by the whole team kept Kilcock scoreless again in the 4th quarter as the Gators ran out 47-9 victors.
