Wicklow songwriter penned Ireland’s 2018 Eurovision entry

It has been announced that Wicklow songwriter Mark Caplice co-wrote this years Irish entry to the Eurovision Semi Final in Lisbon

Caplice who releases music as Kolumbus, from Stratford-on-Slaney in Wicklow, co-wrote the song entitled Together with Laura Elizabeth Hughes and Ryan O’Shaughnessy last year.

Together was purposefully written for the Eurovision Song Contest by the trio while working in The Nucleus, a new Irish songwriting team and hub, founded by Hamlet Sweeney.

Speaking to Wicklownews.net, Caplice has expressed his joy saying:

“No words to describe how I feel right now […] It will be performed by my close friend and collaborator Ryan O’Shaughnessy.

“Ryan is honestly one of the most talented and beautiful humans I have ever met and I’m so glad he gets to give it life in Portugal this May.”

Ryan O’Shaughnessy — who is a Britain’s Got Talent finalist and Voice of Ireland contestant — will perform the trio’s song at the Eurovision Song Contest.

According to a statement from RTÉ, who pick Ireland’s entry to the song contest, Together was chosen from over 300 entries by a panel of music industry professionals who listened to and judged the shortlisted final entries.

The Eurovision Song Contest semi finals take place in Lisbon, Portugal on Tuesday, May 8 and Thursday May 10 with the grand final taking place on Saturday May 12.
