The EU has launched a plan to provide all EU citizens with free Interrail tickets on their 18th birthday.
This will allow young Irish people to apply for one of 20,000 free interrail tickets and explore Europe for a period of up to three weeks.
Sinn Féin MEP Liadh Ní Riada urged students to avail of the scheme as she believes it is a tremendous initiative due to tickets costing upwards of €300 normally.
She said “This initiative will be of huge financial assistance and make travel much more affordable for young people in Ireland”.
More details on how and when the scheme will be launched are due in March.
