A new report from the Health Information and Quality authority shows a residential centre for adults with intellectual disabilities in Wicklow recorded 96 incidents of physical or verbal abuse over three months.
After meeting with residents of Rosanna Gardens near Ashford, HIQA inspectors have reported there is an average of one incident of abuse occurring every day over a three month period.
Residents of the Sunbeam House-ran centre told inspectors that they felt unhappy and unsafe within their home due to recurring incidents.
13 adults live at Rosanna Gardens, each requiring significant support particularly around their behavioural needs.
Sunbeam House Services operates similar centres throughout Wicklow and south County Dublin.
RTÉ reported today that five staff from a different centre operated by Sunbeam House services in Wicklow have been put on paid leave, pending two investigations into allegations of abuse.
