Mary breaks the 1,000km mark on her ‘lap of the map’

Arklow runner Mary Nolan Hickey set off today on the 36th day of her journey around Ireland, in aid of the RNLI.

After a “wonderful, welcoming time” in Belmullet, Co Mayo , Mary left for Bangor Erris at 10am yesterday morning.

So far Mary has ran over 1,000km of the estimated 3,000km of her ‘Lap of the Map’.

She has also managed to raise over €11,000, which will go to support all RNLI stations around the country including Arklow Lifeboat Station.

Speaking on East Coast FM yesterday, Mary said that she is blown away by the “amazing and great support” she has received throughout her journey.

She said the “lap of the map has gone well so far”, and has urged people to “continue to donate to the fantastic cause of the RNLI”.

Mary has a scheduled rest day today, which is fortunate due to the yellow weather warning issued for the country.
