Mary reaches halfway mark

Arklow runner Mary Hickey has reached the halfway mark on her ‘Lap of the map’ campaign aiming to raise funds for the RNLI.

Mary arrived in Galway on Friday where she is taking well deserved rest days before she departs for Kinvara on Tuesday morning.

The runner has been “amazed” by the support she has received along the way and has had a few surprises from other Arklow runners, who have met and joined her.

Speaking on East Coast FM’s morning show Mary said “It is great but it’s tough, the Wild Atlantic Way is amazing. We live on a beautiful island [but] the one thing I have noticed is the litter, it is such a pity the cans and the plastic.”

“I am spending my day off today with my friend AnneMarie O’Sullivan and her husband Pat, it is great to see people from home, and don’t forget if you can’t donate online you can go to your local RNLI station and donate there.”

Over €15,000 of the €20,000 target has now been reached.
