Call Gardai if you are cut off

Gardai are advising people who are in areas that are cut off and running low on food and fuel to contact their local Garda station.

Communities throughout Wicklow who have been cut off since Friday have appealed for help.

A grada spokesperson said “It is no good posting up on social media that they are cut off, we need people to call us and make us aware, we can then make it a priority and do our best to reach these people, this is why we have been asking people to stay off the roads.”

One reader sent us this, this evening from Mongnacool which is located between Aughrim and Rathdrum.

“Can someone help this woman I’m so annoyed right now I have to vent!!
Whilst I acknowledge that the majority of farmers are keeping this country somewhat open right now, we’ve obviously not been blessed with such community spirit on our country lane.

It took the best part of an hour to reach the bottom of the lane wading through 6 ft snow drifts. Our elderly neighbour at the bottom of the 500+ meter lane cannot get out either as drifts are blocking the entrance from the road.

Once accessing the road, it takes approx an hour to walk to the country store and one hour back. They have NO supplies left, no bread and no milk.”
