Future unclear for Arklow Community Action Resource Centre

The future of the Arklow Community Action Resource Centre is in doubt following the termination of their tenancy.

The group have been operating in the town for the last six years and has become a vital service to people in need.

The group posted the following statement on Social Media.

“It is with great sadness and heavy hearts but positive minds that we write this post .

Six years ago Arklow Community Action Resource Centre acquired the current premises we operate from at the Crosscare Centre who have been great landlords to us and we feel that we have been great tenants who do the work of Crosscare locally and we continue to strive to compliment the work they do on a Diocesan level.

Our tenancy sadly terminated March 1st and we have worked tirelessly to relocate without having to seek the help of the wider community but alas as we are volunteers and cannot afford a premises at the current prices landlords are asking so we are asking your help to help us secure a place we can afford to allow us to carry out our work.

It will be a great loss to our Community and its people if Arklow Community Action Resource Centre Centre becomes another statistic that was and is no longer.

We take this opportunity to thank everybody who has helped us in any way and we do hope we will get a place to continue..Sheila and Hilary wish also to personally acknowledge the excellent people in Arklow and surrounds who have supported them since 2012.”

Chairperson Hilary Sharpe said “It is a sad time for all at Arklow Community Action Resource Centre that it has come to this. We remain hopeful that we won’t have to close the centre, it would be a great shame in any Community and apart from the work that goes on there, there are 200 families in Arklow and the surrounding  area who are supported by us with food drops, clothes and furniture. And sadly this week we are back chasing homeless people to get them tents and warm clothes and food, some as young as 22 years.”
