Gardai and the Mountain rescue are pleading with motorists to stay away from the Wicklow uplands
A spokesperson for the Gardai said “We have had to put a checkpoint on the Kilmancanogue to Roundwood road, to make sure only residents are let through. The road is impassable with only one track in the snow, we are trying to keep it clear for emergencies and get to people who have been cut off for days. our resources are stretched to the limit at this time. The biggest problem we are having throughout the county is the amount of abandoned cars, they are causing considerable difficulty for the snow ploughs.
There is a serious situation in the Wicklow uplands and we are asking people to stay off the roads for now, unless in an emergency.”
Roads in Valleymount, Ballyknocken and Lacken are also impassible.
