“Jesus Christ Superstar”  booking opens 20th March

Avonmore Musical Society’s 39th production, the global phenomenon that had wowed audiences worldwide  “Jesus Christ Superstar” will hit the stage in St. Mary’s College, Arklow from Tues 3rd – Saturday 7th April nightly at 8pm. Online booking for this masterpiece will open on Tuesday 20th March. Directed by : Stephen Acton, Musical Director: Naoimh Penston and Choreographer: Martina Lynch, this iconic rock opera is a timeless work set against the backdrop of an extraordinary and universally known series of events but seen, unusually through the eyes of Judas Iscariot.


“’Jesus Christ Superstar” is an iconic rock opera that reinvented musical theater for the modern age. With music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice, this global blockbuster tells the story of the final weeks in the life of Jesus Christ, from the perspective of Judas Iscariot. As Christ’s followers grow more fervent, Judas must make his fateful choice between faith and betrayal. Filled with an exciting mix of musical styles that draw upon 1970s rock, gospel, folk and funk themes, this contemporary imagining of the biblical tale features high-energy dance and powerful storytelling.


The society are busy rehearsing this riveting and wonderful show with driving rock rhythms and lyric ballads, showcasing a wonderful front line backed up by a super chorus on stage. Musical numbers from the show include: “What¹s the Buzz”, “Everything¹s Alright”, “Hosanna”, “I Don¹t Know How To Love Him”, “Gethsemane”, “Could We Start Again Please”, “Superstar” and many more.
