Minister Harris raises Wicklow Coastal Erosion With OPW Minister

Wicklow TD Minister Simon Harris met this week with Minister for OPW Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran, to raise the serious and growing concern of coastal erosion in Wicklow.

Despite the recent adverse weather conditions highlighting the urgency of action needed to be taken, no work has started yet to prevent further damages, in particular to The Murrough and Arklow’s North Beach.

Speaking after the meeting, Minister Harris said he raised concerns about the speed at which action is being taken, which Minister Moran responded to saying he is fully aware of the urgency of action and has arranged for officials from his department to meet with Wicklow County Council on the matter.

An initial meeting has taken place already, according to Minister Harris, and a second one focusing on The Murrough will take place shortly.

Minister Harris concluded “I will continue to work with the OPW and Wicklow County Council to push for urgent action on this issue. It is vital both for the County Wicklow community but also for tourism that our beautiful coastline is protected.”
