Storm Emma no match for Mary Hickey, as she breaks 1,000 mile mark

Arklow runner Mary Hickey has reached yet another feat on her lap of the map, breaking the 1,000 mile mark on Sunday.

After Storm Emma put a halt to her journey, Mary got back on the road on Sunday with her spikes and walking poles at the ready, travelling 22 miles from Listowel to Fenit in Co Kerry.

Mary didn’t celebrate her 1,000 miles achievement for long, as she ran from Fenit to Tralee the next morning.

She stopped for two well deserved rest days at The Rose Hotel in Tralee, where she was warmly welcomed by locals and hotel staff — a kind local physical therapist David O’Donoghue even provided her with a sports massage.

This morning at 9am, Mary’s journey is back under way once again as she travels from Tralee to Camp Village.

Mary is travelling around Ireland on a ‘Lap of the Map’ to raise funds for the RNLI — she has almost raised a massive €17,000 so far.
