Weather warning code level orange issued

Gardai and emergency services are pleading with people to stay off roads in the county after more snow fell last night.

Most routes throughout the county are still impassable.

With rain and sleet forecast for today concern is now turning to flooding, people are being warned to keep away from waterways.

The snowfall has ceased in most areas, however on the Wicklow Mountains some further snow will fall today. Elsewhere there will be just a few outbreaks of snow this morning. It will turn to sleet or rain during the day and the lying snow will start to melt. Temperatures this morning still around freezing, but they will gradually rise to values between 3 and 5 degrees this afternoon. The fresh easterly winds will continue strong along the coast.

Outbreaks of rain or sleet as well tonight. The rain will be heavy at times and together with the melting snow this could lead to localised flooding. Lowest temperatures between 0 and 3 degrees. The easterly winds will gradually ease.

Further outbreaks of rain tomorrow with the ongoing risk of flooding due to melting snow. A few sunny spells will develop as well. Highest temperatures of 4 to 7 degrees in light or moderate easterly winds.
