Breast Cancer Ireland announce new research fellowship in memory of Emma Hannigan

 Bestselling author and campaigner, Emma Hannigan who passed away a month ago tomorrow, is to be honoured by Breast Cancer Ireland, the charity for whom she was an ambassador, through a new research fellowship, The Emma Hannigan Breast Cancer Research Fellowship.  This initial three year award will support pioneering research taking place in the Breast Cancer Research Centre in the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and the inaugural award will go to research fellow Dr Damier Varislija.

 

Hannigan, who raised over €126k in the weeks before she died, through her TEXT CURE campaign, was a tireless supporter of the charity and CEO Aisling Hurley comments, “The naming of this fellowship in Emma’s honour recognises her valuable contribution to our research efforts and it ensures her memory lives on in transforming the landscape of breast cancer in Ireland into the future”

 

Breast Cancer Ireland raises significant funding to help speed up breast cancer research discovery times as well promoting education and awareness on the importance of breast health amongst women of all ages.
