Permission granted for extra accommodation for Greystones CNS

Wicklow County Council’s has granted planning permission for two additional portacabins for the Greystones Community National School (CNS).

The school is currently located in a temporary premises at the Rugby Club on Mill Road in Greystones until such time that the permanent building is built in Charlesland.

The decision by Wicklow County Council to grant temporary portacabins means that the school can offer the second stream of junior infants for September 2018.

Social Democrats Councillor Jennifer Whitmore has welcomed the decision saying “it will be a huge relief to those parents on the CNS waiting list who have been unable to secure a place for their child to date.”

Cllr. Whitmore said the Department is currently finalising the tender process for the build and should be in a position to select the preferred contractor for the new building in Charlesland, scheduled for completion in 2019.

“However, despite this good news for the CNS incoming junior infants, there are many other parents who will still do not have a place for September and I ask that the Department ensure that every pre-school child that requires a place be accommodated. This needs to be done as quickly as possible to avoid any further stress for parents and children who do not currently have a place,” Whitmore concluded,
