Last weekend at the AIMS Choral Festival in New Ross, the AIMS Nominations, which are the Oscars of Amateur Musical Theatre in Ireland, were announced.
Avonmore Musical Society’s Chris Currid, who played the part of Judas was nominated for Best Male Singer for the society’s production of “Jesus Christ Superstar” this year.
Another member, Naoimh Penston, Musical Director for Avonmore M.S. this year was M.D. for Carnew M.S. production of “Sister Act” and also played the leading role of Dolores Van Cartier , received the Spirit of AIMS/Adjudicators Special Award “for doing machine like work as an excellent Dolores Van Cartier, while also serving as Musical Director for the same production of Sister Act.”
Another talented member of Avonmore M.S. Sean Hendley, who played the part of Pilate in “Jesus Christ Superstar” this year was nominated for Best Comedian with Teachers M.S. for their production of “The Producers” where he played the part of Franz. What amazingly talented people in Avonmore M.S. Congratulations to all three.
The society are thrilled and delighted for Chris, Naoimh and Sean and look forward to supporting all three at the AIMS Awards weekend which takes place in the INEC, Gleneagles Hotel, Killarney, Co Kerry on Saturday 16th June. Just over 1200 people representing societies throughout the 32 counties will be present at the Banquet, where the winners will be announced, which celebrates the cream of Musical Theatre in Ireland.
