A man who was wanted in connection with a missing Wicklow woman has been shot and seriously injured in Cherrywood.

The man produced what gardai believed was a gun after he was approached by a detective.

It is understood the man is a father-of-two from the Wicklow area.

The man is said to be in a critical condition.
