Wicklow senior football manager John Evans has described his side’s All-Ireland qualifier against Cavan this weekend as a “really, really tough battle”.
Wicklow will host Cavan at Joule Park in Aughrim on Saturday evening having been drawn against the division one side following Wicklow’s heavy defeat against Dublin in the Leinster SFC quarter-finals.
Speaking to WicklowNews, Evans said that — while Cavan are not of the calibre of Dublin — he is expecting a difficult game.
“Cavan are a very good team. They went up to division one three years ago. They came back down last year, and they went back up again this year so they’re a good side of proven quality. We’ll be expecting a really, really tough battle.
“Cavan are not Dublin but they’re certainly a very good team. Whatever about beating them, I think it’s a case of when you’re a division four team, you have to know where you are and where you are coming from so I think we’d be happy with putting in a very good performance.”
Evans confirmed that, having previously featured from the bench against Offaly and Dublin, Conor Healy will play no part of Saturday’s game through injury.
Throw-in for Wicklow vs Cavan in the All-Ireland SFC Qualifiers at Joule Park in Aughrim is at 6pm.
