Wicklow vet Gillian Hick celebrated the launch of her third book Vet on a Mission with family, friends and supporters yesterday evening at Bridge Street Books in Wicklow Town.
The book’s publishers O’Brien’s Press revealed at the launch that her previous books Vet on the Loose (2005) and Vet Among the Pigeons (2010) have now sold 20,000 copies worldwide.
Her latest work is packed full of humorous and touching stories of the animals and people she has encountered on her journey.
From Straus the ailing german shepherd to Edward the donkey, Charlie the chinchilla, Spud the collie and George the snoring boxer dog, you’ll fall in love with pets you’ve never even met.
Gillian details why she left behind a world of mixed animal practice to embark upon opening a small animal veterinary practice from her own home … with three kids in tow — what could go wrong?
With honesty and humour Gillian writes about the struggle to balance motherhood and family life with the demands of being a twenty four hour on-call vet.
