Playgroup evicted from community hall after 28 years

After years of community service, Avoca Community Playgroup are disappointed to find that they have been evicted by the Avoca Community Hall Committee from the room they have rented in the Avoca Community Hall for the past twenty eight years.

A spokesperson for the playgroup said “The group was held five mornings each week during the school year. The rent was paid weekly without fail to the Hall Committee.

The playgroup has always been a focal point of the Avoca community, it provided a caring facility which cherished all preschoolers from the area regardless of their circumstance or situation.

Community projects play an intrinsic part in ensuring that small rural communities like Avoca stay alive.

We not only provided a quality preschool service, it was a social hub for parents of young children to meet, many lifelong friendships were forged at the door of playgroup waiting for the children to emerge.

Playgroup is supported by a Fas Community Employment Scheme which  provided the employees  with education and skills  that enabled them to take up employment  and further their life’s ambitions.

It is a tragic day for the Avoca community to lose what has become such an essential  part of its existence”.

If you would like to keep the community playschool in the community hall of Avoca please support us this Saturday the 11th at 4pm in the carpark across from the chapel.
