Wicklow RNLI all-weather lifeboat Annie Blaker was requested to launch at 2.02pm this afternoon (Saturday 11 August) to assist a ten-metre motor cruiser in difficulty 11 miles north of Wicklow.
The alarm was raised after the boat was reported to be listing in the water and had lost power and steering. Weather conditions in the area were described as sea state rough with wind south-easterly force 6.
As the lifeboat was on route to the incident, the occupants on the cruiser managed to restore power and motor back towards Greystones harbour. The Dublin based Coast Guard helicopter R116 and Greystones Coast Guard shore unit were also tasked to the scene and stood by as the vessel now escorted by a yacht entered the harbour.
With the cruiser safely inside the harbour the lifeboat was stood down by the Coast Guard and returned to station.
The crew on the callout were 2nd Coxswain Ciaran Doyle, Mechanic Brendan Copeland, Kevin Rahill, Carol Flahive, Connie O Gara and Matt Doyle.
