The Tinahely lady footballers put in a five-goal clinic to romp past Westmeath county champions Moate on their way to a Leinster intermediate club quarter-final.
Goals from Loretta Gilbert (2), Jackie Kinch, Ciara Byrne, and Laura Hogan sent Tinahely well on their way to a dominant and thorough victory over an overwhelmed and outmatched Moate side.
Despite how powerful a win it turned out to be, Tinahely found themselves three points behind to their Westmeath opponents early in the first half. However, that turned out to be a blip in the grand scheme of things as Tinahely quickly took control.
Loretta Gilbert’s first goal, followed by a Laura Hogan point, put Tinahely into a lead which they would not surrender. Laura Hogan added another point from a free before Gilbert got her second goal of the game. A subsequent Ciara Byrne point extended the Wicklow side’s lead to eight points.
A Jackie Kinch penalty cemented Tinahely’s lead to 11 points going into the break.
Rather than rest on their laurels, and possibly aware that Moate had come back from an eight-point half-time deficit to clinch the Westmeath county title, Tinahely went for the kill in the second-half.
Laura Hogan split the posts for Tinahely yet again before Aimee Maher did similar to push their advantage out to 13.
That proved to be an unlucky 13 for Moate as Tinahely captain Ciara Byrne netted their fourth goal of the evening before Laura Hogan got the goal that her overall performance richly deserved.

Moate would get a consolation goal to put a little bit of gloss on proceedings but it was too little too late for the Westmeath champions as Tinahely romped to a dominant victory whcih now sets them up for a Leinster quarter-final in two weeks time.
