Forest fires continue to plague Wicklow

Wicklow Fire Services have responded to numerous incidents of forest fires around Co.Wicklow today and yesterday.

Bray firefighters were first called to a forest fire close to Powerscourt Waterfall.

Wicklow firefighters extinguished a fire close to the railway line in Rathnew and Gardai are currently investigating the incident.

A suspicious forest fire at Glenmacnass prompted Wicklow Fire Services to ask ‘why anyone would want to desecrate such a stunning place…’

And today Wicklow Fire Services extinguished a small fire in Ballygannon, Rathdrum, that had the potential to spread to nearby woods and cause serious damage to the area.

Wicklow Fire Services have advised that ‘there is still a serious risk of forest fires’ and that people should ‘be careful and secondly be vigilant for the less socially conscious.’

The fires come after an Irish summer that some sources have described as ‘record breaking’ in heat.
