Arklow, Bray, Roundwood, and Wicklow Town have been selected by Wicklow County Council to to take part in the Bank of Ireland National Enterprise Awards.
The winner of the ninety towns and villages entered into the competition will receive a crash prize total of €33,000 and will be announced at a gala dinner at The Lyrath Hotel in Kilkenny on the 28th of November.
Arklow, being entered into the population of greater than 10,000 category, has a unique opportunity to bring to attention the forthcoming initiatives for enterprise in the town.
Cathaoirleach of Arklow Municipal District and Chairperson of the Town Team, Cllr Miriam Murphy said: “The Town Team is delighted to have been afforded the opportunity to showcase what Arklow has to offer in the areas of Enterprise and Community in this national competition. This nomination is recognition of the fact that so many people from all sectors of the community are delivering great work on a daily basis.”
Bray will be representing County Wicklow in the 10,000-plus category and will also be showcasing the very best of what the town has to offer in terms of enterprise and positive aspects of the area.
Cathaoirleach of Bray Municipal District, Cllr Pat Vance, said: “I am delighted that Bray has been nominated for these awards. It is really an excellent opportunity to be able to showcase our thriving town and demonstrate how our collaborative approach with the local authority, business and the wider community ensures its success.”
Roundwood has been nominated for the category of towns with populations of up to 5,000 and will highlight its beautiful scenery and The Varty Reservoir Loop Walk.
Cllr Shay Cullen, Wicklow County Council and Roundwood native, explained: “Roundwood has a key strength that makes it stand out from other areas, regardless of their size, and that is the people. The Roundwood & District Community Council are completely voluntary and have worked on many projects to enhance the area. They are driven, dedicated and have demonstrated their competency through the completion of this amazing amenity for Roundwood.”
Wicklow Town has been chosen for the 10,000-plus category and will also highlight the town’s achievements and visions over the last year.
The Cathaoirleach of Wicklow Municipal District, Cllr Daire Nolan, said: “It is a great honour for the people of Wicklow to be chosen to represent County Wicklow on a national stage. It is important that the community now work together to promote the amazing attributes that the town has to offer.”
