If you live in or around Bray, then the Citizens Information Service (CIS) is probably the most valuable resource on your doorstep.
Based on the Quinsboro Road in Bray, the CIS provides a free and confidential information, advice and advocacy service in relation to public and social services that we could be availing of – but might not fully understand how to access.
An electronic store house of up-to- date information on the rights and entitlements of the public, the Citizens Information Centre (CIC) is a first-stop for anyone seeking clarification on civil and social services that are available to them.
Development Manager, Martina Cronin, said “We have CICs in Bray, Arklow, Wicklow Town, Glendalough and Blessington which provide a free, impartial and confidential information, advice and advocacy service. This personal, caring, one-to-one service is provided by our team of trained volunteer information-providers who give up their time and talents to help others in their local communities.”
And while the information they have gathered comes from swathes of government agencies and departments, they have thoroughly democratised the information in order to make it easy for everyone to understand
Some of this free information can come in the form of legal or financial advice, an employment rights advocacy service or CV and interview skills clinics.
They will help you in applying for anything from medical cards, housing to passports; they’ll inform you on your rights as an employee.
One visitor praised the group saying “I was pleased and satisfied with the help I received from Citizens Information, they were helpful in trying to get me back on a Disability Allowance payment… they couldn’t have been more helpful”.
If you are unsure about your entitlements with regards to social welfare or your right to vote, the Citizens Information Centre can help you understand everything and equip you with the information and advocacy you’ll need to take your next steps.
You can visit the Citizens Information Office in Bray at 2 Boulevard, Quinsboro Road, Bray.
Bray Citizens Information Centre is open Monday to Friday from 10.00am to 4.30pm, and Tuesdays from 7.30pm to 9.00pm.
