Wicklow residents urged to remain ‘vigilant’ following violent break-in

Gardai are asking people around the Wicklow area to be vigilant after a young family in Ballinaclash were subjected to a violent ordeal last Thursday morning.

The family, which included a young child, were woken by their dog barking at 2.35 am outside their home in Ballinaclash in Co. Wicklow.

When one of the occupants noticed a stranger in the back garden, the alarmed raider threw a pick axe through the window and barely missed the man inside.

The wife and their son locked themselves inside a bedroom before the father went outside to confront the raider and he soon noticed a second man attempting to break into his vehicle.

The resident was then viciously attacked by the two men, but they soon fled in panic when the man told them that he had alerted Gardai.

Gardai are especially concerned due to the fact that the raiders were well-prepared to use violence and are asking locals to ensure that their homes are properly secured at night and morning time – including the use of CCTV, alarms, and dogs.
