Donard post office to close on the 31st of December

Donard Post Office will close on the 31st of December.

An Post confirmed the news in a letter to Blessington Councillor Gerry O’Neill this week.

From the 1st of January 2019 all social welfare payments and AddressPal items for collection will be transferred to Dunlavin Post Office.

Mail collection and delivery will continue as normal.

Councillor O’Neill said “It is another kick in the teeth for rural Ireland, people in the area will now have to travel 7.5 kilometres to Dunlavin, people collecting pensions and have no transport will be particularly hit.

The government are completely to blame they are giving An Post the green light to do whatever they like, it is stupid holding public meetings after the horse has bolted and the decision has been made. This has been proven in Laragh and Kilmacanogue.

Services have been decimated in West Wicklow over the years they have closed Post Offices in Rathdangan, Stratford, Kiltegan, Lacken, Kilbride, Knockananna, Valleymount, Grangecon, Hollywood and now Donard.”
