Minister Simon Harris has encouraged those eligible in Wicklow to avail of the fuel allowance this coming season.
The fuel allowance is paid to long-term social welfare recipients in order to help with the costs of keeping their homes warm during the colder months.
Minister Harris said “It is important to remember that from today (October 1st) Wicklow residents can avail of the Government’s Fuel Allowance scheme. The Fuel Allowance is a payment under the National Fuel Scheme to help with the cost of heating your home during the winter months.
Fuel Allowance is generally paid with a social welfare payment on the same day. It is important to remember that fuel allowance recipients can choose to get paid weekly or to get their total allowance paid in 2 lump sums.
New applicants for Fuel Allowance need to fill in an application form. This form is available on the Department of Social Protection website (www.welfare.ie) and also available from your local post office. You can also request the form by texting FORM FUEL followed by your name and address to 51909. Of course, you do not need to reapply for the Fuel Allowance each year as long as, your circumstances remain the same and you continue to get the same social welfare payment.”
It is really important that we help people to live comfortably. I am working with my Government colleagues to continuously look for ways to help vulnerable people in our community.”
