Wicklow TD Minister Simon Harris has this morning announced that Educate Together will be the patron of the new secondary school to be established in Wicklow Town.
Speaking as he confirmed the news, Minister Harris said:
“I am delighted to announce that Educate Together has been selected to be patron of the new Secondary School in Wicklow. I am particularly pleased that the patron was selected using the preference of parents in the catchment area via the Department of Education’s new online patronage process.”
‘I opened the Wicklow Educate Together National School in 2017 and I know it is hugely popular in the area. I know parents will be very happy their children can continue their education under this patron.”
The new school will have a capacity of 600 and will open in temporary accommodation in September 2019. This will allow the school get established when work continues to build the permanent school. The location etc will be announced once details are finalised.
Minister Harris continued:
“This is one of 4 new schools to be established in Co. Wicklow in the coming years thanks to a recent demographic study by the department of education. A second post primary school will be established in Kilcoole/Greystones in 2021 and 2 primary schools will be established also. I look forward to providing updates on these as I continue to work with the Department of Education and our local schools community.”
