Petrol, diesel, and cigarettes to be targeted in next week’s budget

Taxes on petrol, diesel, and cigarettes are set to increase in next week’s budget.

A proposed carbon tax is being examined as a way to help fund social welfare hikes and income tax cuts.

The tax will affect drivers, smokers, and the cost of home heating.

The Irish Independent have reported that the government are also looking at a number of stealth taxes on workers and businesses and there is expected to be a change to the 9% VAT rate for hotels and restaurants.

There will be a reduced mortgage interest for 300 thousand homeowners and there will be a hike to education levies paid by businesses.
