Revenge on the menu as Wicklow drawn against Kildare in Leinster championship

The Wicklow senior footballers have been drawn to play against Kildare in the first-round of the 2019 Leinster senior football championship, eight years after Kildare knocked Wicklow out of the competition.

The draw for the championship took place on Thursday night, with the winners of Louth vs Wexford facing the unenviable prospect of Dublin in the quarter-finals, with the Dubs seeking their ninth-consecutive provincial title.

John Evans’ men will take on Kildare in the championship for the first time since 2011, when Kildare knocked Wicklow out of the Leinster championship at the first-round stage.

Should Wicklow defeat Kildare, they will face Longford in the championship quarter-finals — the same side Wicklow beat in the first round of the Leinster championship in 2013.

Last season, Wicklow made it to the quarter-finals of the Leinster championship after defeating Offaly in the first-round. The Garden men fell to eventual champions Dublin in the last-eight.

Kildare, meanwhile, fell to last-season’s surprise package Carlow in the quarter-finals.

Dates and times for the first-round of the 2019 Leinster Senior Football Championship will be confirmed in due course.
