Carnew notes week November 5th


Congratulations to Billy Molloy, Carnew and Sarah Connor, Beechmount who were married recently.

To Joe Sinnott, Knockbrandon and Sarah Clare, Ballynultagh who were married last week.


Sincere sympathy is extended to the family and relatives of Paddy Rawson,  Coolroe who died recently in England and was buried on Sunday in Killavaney cemetery.

To the family and relatives of Jimmy Gregan, Castlewhite who died recently.


A sincere thank you to everyone who supported and attended our parish bazaar last Friday night in Colaiste Bhride, to all who donated items for the various stalls and all who helped in anyway, many thanks, your support is greatly appreciated.


The next bingo will be on Sunday 18th November at 2.30pm in Colaiste Bhride, all welcome.


Details of Tinahely Walking Club Sunday walks for the next two weeks: Nov 11: Kaideen, B, 10-12km, 3 hours. Meet at Tinahely 10.00. Nov 18: Croghanmoira, B, 12km, 3 hours. Meet at Tinahely 10.00 or Aughrim 10.15. As usual, please ensure to wear proper walking boots, to bring adequate food & drink and to pack (or wear) rain gear.


Coláiste Bhríde’s ‘Rise and Shine’ walk up Sliabh Bhuí, will take place on Friday, November 9th at 6 am. Students will be walking back to school. Motorists, please be vigilant on the main road from Askamore to Carnew.

Annual Table Quiz

Shillelagh Area Community Games Committee will be holding their annual table quiz with raffle prizes on Fri 16th Nov @ 9pm in Parkview House, Shillelagh to raise funds for their 2019 program. Entry fee is €40 per table of four. If you don’t have a team don’t worry, they will find one for you on the night! For further details find the event on Facebook.

The annual cabaret for Tomacork will be held on Friday 16th November at 9pm in the usual venue, music by John Flood, admission only €5, all welcome.

Carnew Musical Society – My Fair Lady

Just a few more weeks for the cast and crew of Carnew Musical Society to put the polishing touches on their 52nd production, My Fair Lady based on Pygmalion by George B. Shawbook and lyrics – Lerner and Loewe. The show will be performed in St. Brigid’s Hall, Carnew from Monday 26th November – Saturday 1st December. Coupled with a great storyline the show includes many favourites including, Wouldn’t it be loverly, I could have danced all night, Get me to the church on time, The Ascot Gavotte, On the Street where you live and With a little bit of Luck to name but a few. Priority Booking, Sponsor and Super Sponsor Tickets are now available from

The cost of staging musicals is very high and Carnew Musical Society would not be in a position to stage Musicals without the continued support of local businesses and patrons for their sponsorship and patronage. Priority Booking tickets (which replaces the Associate Membership ticket) will be available from all committee and cast members at a cost of €17.00 each and will entitle you to priority booking for each seat purchased. If you would like to sponsor, a sponsor ticket will cost €40.00 and will admit two people and sponsors will have their names listed in the programme. Super Sponsor tickets are also available and please do contact us for more information about becoming a super sponsor. If you have not been approached for tickets and would like to purchase an Priority Booking or Sponsorship ticket, or would like to place an advertisement in the programme, please contact 087 9323990 (this is not the booking number).
