9 to 5 is about Three unlikely friends take control of their office and learn there is nothing they can’t do, even in a man’s world. Set in the late 1970s. this hilarious story of friendship and revenge in the Rolodex era is outrageous, thought-provoking and even a little romantic. Pushed to the boiling point, three female coworkers concoct a plan to get even with the sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot they call their boss. In a hilarious turn of events, Violet, Judy and Doralee live out their wildest fantasy – giving their boss the boot! While Hart remains “otherwise engaged,” the women give their workplace a dream makeover, taking control of the company that had always kept them down. Hey, a girl can scheme, can’t she?
This high-energy show has a jubilant score and easily relatable characters.
This amateur production is presented by arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). Based on the 1980 smash hit film in which Dolly Parton starred, this highly acclaimed Broadway musical was nominated for no less than four Tony Awards. Some of the hits from the show include “Hart to Hart”, “Let Love Grow”, “Get out and stay out” and of course “9 to 5” and much more.
Looking forward to seeing many new faces and many of our friends down the years to join us for the wonderfully uplifting show and a celebration of 40 years of Avonmore Musical Society.
