€1,626,000 secured in Government funding for Wicklow Town Regeneration

Wicklow TD Minister Simon Harris has this morning announced that Government will be providing €1,626,000 for the upgrade and regeneration of Fitzwilliam Square and the surrounding areas in Wicklow town. The funding allocated will also cover the relocation of Wicklow Town Library and the enhancement of the public realm.

Speaking as he made the announcement:

“I am absolutely delighted to announce this very significant funding of €1,626,00 for the regeneration of Wicklow town. I have been meeting and working with representatives of the Wicklow Town team for some time now as this project was identified as a key target for the development of the town. I am really pleased to be able to deliver this funding now so the work can get under way.”

Minister Harris continued:

“This fund, the Urban Regeneration  and Development Fund, as part of Ireland 2040, is the largest regeneration initiative in Ireland for many decades and will be a major driving force behind the rejuvenation of our rural towns. This funding will not only allow for the upgrade of Fitzwilliam Square, it will fund street improvements and pedestrianisation where needed, it will allow the relocation of the Wicklow Library for refurbishment and it will improve the public realm of the town.”

“I am really looking forward to working with Wicklow County Council and the Wicklow Town Team to progress this fantastic project.”
