Wicklow shopkeeper learns she will go on Winning Streak while attending the National Lottery Good Causes Awards

A Wicklow shopkeeper is hoping to go on a Winning Streak this weekend after learning she was selected to go on the National Lottery TV gameshow while she was attending the National Lottery Good Causes Awards last weekend. She will appear on Winning Streak this Saturday (10th November) on RTÉ One.

Teresa Byrne Aughrim, Co. Wicklow wasn’t watching Winning Streak last Saturday evening so she missed her name being called out to be on next week’s show by Marty and Sinead. Co-incidentally she was a guest at the National Lottery Good Causes Awards at the time with her daughter Caoimhe! A call came through from her brother-in-law and there was great excitement at her table!

Teresa was at the awards as she is a retailer and runs the Londis store in Aughrim with her husband Peter. In fact, the store has been run by the family for the past 82 years since it was opened by her father-in-law in 1936. Teresa has been married to Peter for the past 48 years and the pair are proud parents to eight children, all of whom are coming along to RTÉ this Saturday to cheer her on. They are Darragh, Caoimhe, Siobhan, Monica, William, Paul, Peadar and Cillian. All week Teresa’s shop has been so busy with Aughrim locals and customers coming in to wish her all the best of luck on Saturday.

In her spare time Teresa loves going hillwalking around the Dublin Wicklow Mountains and isn’t even thinking as far as what she will do with her Winning Streak winnings! Teresa will be joined by Bray’s Margaret O’Brien and Sharon King of Newtownmountkennedy.

Despite the presence of a few nerves, Margaret O’Brien from Cois Ceim in Bray, Co. Wicklow is very much looking forward to her Winning Streak appearance on Saturday night. She has her daughter to thank for this as it was her daughter Mary’s name which was pulled out of the drum. Margaret always puts her children’s name on the scratch cards she sends in and Mary clearly seems to be the lucky one as her name came up trumps!

Margaret arrived home late on Saturday and got a call from a friend to say a Mary O’Brien was pulled out of the drum. She watched the rest of the show on RTE+1 and when the address flashed up on screen at the end of the show, Margaret knew it was her daughter’s name. Along with her five children, they celebrated that evening with a family meal in TGI Friday’s.

Mary has two sons: Martin and Timmy, both of whom cannot make it to cheer her on on Saturday however she will be joined by her three girls: Mary, Ellie and Pearl as well as other members of friends and family.

Margaret’s Winning Streak appearance really could not have come at a better time as in just four weeks her son Timmy will marry his fiancée Joanna. With any winnings Margaret will help out with the wedding and have a great celebration with the family.

Sharon King from Newtownmountkennedy, Co. Wicklow was visiting her son in Belfast on Saturday when she got a call to say her that her partner, Noel McNulty’s (from Tallaght in Dublin) name had come out for Winning Streak. She called Noel who verified this. Fast forward a couple of days and Noel asked Sharon to go on the show for him. Although she is a little nervous, Sharon was happy to do this good deed for her partner of 13 years and is excited for this weekend.

Sharon, who has lived in Newtownmountkennedy for more than a decade, still classes herself as a Dub, having grew up in Clontarf and lived in Tallaght before moving out to Wicklow. She has two sons Neil and Ryan. Neil, who lives in Belfast is coming along on the night while her other son Ryan will be watching from home. Sharon

Noel will be supporting Sharon from the audience along with a number of family and friends. He is an engineer and co-owns the company Rockwell Precision Engineering (RPE) which is based out in Tallaght. With any winnings from the show Noel has promised to get Sharon a new car!
