Roundwood notes week December 17th

roundwood local notes

A great crowd turned out on a very wet and windy night for Roundwood Cancer Supports launch in Roundwood Parish Centre on Saturday 15th December.  The centre was opened by Professor Paul Brown Consultant Haematologist from St James Hospital.  Roundwood Cancer Support is a newly set up organisation in Roundwood and will be a registered Charity.

The aim is to provide practical help and emotional support to those affected by cancer &  their families, including advice, assistance ,  transport to hospital for their various treatments & in various other ways. We are here to lend a helping hand and a listening ear, when you need us

The group is very grateful to the committee of Roundwood Parish Centre who has given them the use of two rooms in the centre which has a separate access to ensure privacy for our visitors.

One of the rooms will be our welcoming room & the other a relaxation room. People have been very generous in organising fundraising events & donating to this very worthy cause

which has enabled us to get it off the ground.  If anyone would like to help in anyway whether it be to organise a fundraiser or to volunteer to be a driver please

contact any of our committee either by email at Roundwood roundwoodcs@gmail.com  or telephone us on 0876062072

The Roundwood Fun Duathlon will take place on Thursday 27th of December generously sponsored by Kavanagh’s Vartry House. This community event will provide a great opportunity for folk to shake off the Christmas cobwebs and test the new bikes that Santa brought while raising much needed funds for Roundwood Cancer Support Group.  The route will consist of a 5 mile cycle and a 1 mile run taking in some of the Vartry Reservoirs trails. For families and those of a less competitive nature, there is a shorter walk which will be entirely on footpaths or on the Vartry trails. An evening of great entertainment is planned afterwards in Kavanagh’s Vartry House.  A fun afternoon for all the family is guaranteed. Registration from 1.30pm at Kavanagh’s with a race start time of 2pm.

There will be a five day trip to Slovenia on the 4th April to the 9th April at a cost of €699 per person sharing. As there are limited places a deposit of €200 is required asap. There will be a tour of Scotland in August/September  dates to be decided & a Westport country music break in October 2019 which includes some day trips. For more details please contact Susan on 0876273032.
