High fuel prices recorded in Wicklow

Hugh O’Farrell-Walsh of East Coast FM reports motorists in parts of Wicklow are paying through the nose when it comes to fuel.

According to the price comparison website pump.ie the cheapest petrol in the county appears to be at Applegreen in Rathnew at 126.8 with diesel at 122.8 per litre, while the Top petrol station in Arklow is charging 139.9 a litre for petrol with Diesel costing 135.9.

This compares to the lowest price in Dublin where both the Applegreen station and Circle K at Mount Merrion are charging 118.5 for petrol and 114.5 for diesel.

Other counties beating Wicklow garages on price are Wexford, Cavan, Clare, Louth and Monaghan.

Wicklow TD John Brady said ” Fuel costs have hit a 16 month low, the main reason for the decrease in prices can be attributed to the reduction in the cost of crude oil.

However most petrol stations are very slow at passing these reductions onto the customer.

In one petrol station today in south Dublin the cost was 122.5 for petrol & and 118.5 for Diesel.

However in a lot of Wicklow petrol stations it averages at 132.5 for petrol & 128.5 for Diesel, that’s on average 10 cent more expensive per liter than in South Dublin!

So the message to the consumer is to shop around.

Where in Wicklow is the cheapest for petrol & Diesel?”
