Sadness has been brought to the town of Arklow following the death of talented musician John Hogan.
John appeared on The Voice of Ireland in 2014, his mentor was the late Dolores O’ Riordan.
Yvonne Kenny of the Arklow Music and Arts Scene posted “It is a sad, sad day for the Arklow Music Scene, one of our most talented young musicians John Hogan Junior has left us.
Having worked with Lucy for a lifetime I know John from a child.
With a pedigree like his, son of local Soprano Lucy Carolan and John Hogan Snr lead singer from Boru Ireland, it was inevitable that his future would lie in music.
I have watched and followed his career and music with pride from an early age and was so excited to see him shine like the star he was on the Voice of Ireland.
He gave an incredible performance at our Totally Trad night in November 2016 wowing his audience, he was such a talent. My heart is broken as I type this because John wasn’t just a star but the most incredible warm hearted human being you would ever meet.
My heart goes out to Lucy, John and the Hogan and Carolan family and his friends.
On behalf of all at AMA we extend our deepest sympathies and pray to give them strength at this difficult time. Rest in peace Little Boy Blue. Let’s hope he is making sweet music now in a better place with his Mentor Dolores O’ Riordan”
Fellow musician and Boru Ireland member Tommy Breen said on behalf of the band “It is with deep regret that we pass on the sad news that our banjo player John Hogans son, John Hogan junior has passed away.
John has been ill for a while and fought hard but is now at peace.
John was reared around the band and as a little boy he sat in on so many rehearsals and get together’s that he was like a son to all of us.
He took up music and was a great musician and singer in his own right and had written some beautiful songs. Having turned all four judges chairs on the Voice Ireland the world was his oyster as he prepared an assault on the music scene.
I am numb writing this and I just don’t know what else to say.
We will miss you John you are one of our own!”
John will be reposing at Hudson’s Funeral home Tuesday from 3pm to 8pm, with removal Wednesday morning at 9.20 am to The Church of Saints Mary & Peter, Arklow arriving for Mass at 10 am, followed by burial in St. Gabriel’s Cemetery Arklow.
