A section of the surface of the St. Laurences Park children’s playground in Wicklow Town was damaged after a bonfire was lit in the park grounds during the weekend.
Photos circulated on social media also show the area to be severely littered.
Posting her thoughts on Facebook, Councillor Mary Kavanagh said, “I’ve reported this dreadful case of littering at St Laurence’s Park/ Darragh Park playground to the Municipal District office. As for the bonfire that was lit in the actual playground itself, that’s just inexcusable and an appalling way to leave a children’s playground!”
“With so many people like Tidy Towns and residents’ associations working so hard to keep our town and estates clean, it’s a very disappointing start to the new year.”
Residents of the area have called for adequate lighting to be installed in an attempt to discourage continuing anti-social activity in the park.
Councillor Kavanagh urged residents to report any sightings of people partaking in anti-social activity to the Gardai.
