Despite repeated warnings “Snow Tourists” are still trying to get to the Sally Gap

Despite repeated requests from the Gardai and the Mountain Rescue “Snow Tourists” are still trying to get to the Sally Gap and Wicklow gap.

The Wicklow mountains and uplands received a significant fall of snow between Thursday evening and Friday morning.

A Garda spokesperson said “Once again we are asking members of the public to keep away from these areas, due to the danger of both themselves and any emergency agency that have to be called out to help them.

A number of cars have been abandoned this morning on routes up to the Sally Gap.

At the moment there is no provision or legislation to close and block the road completely, so we are calling for the public to keep away and heed the warnings.”
