Fine Gael TD and Minister of State, Andrew Doyle, has welcomed the news that Donard Garda Station is due to reopen within a number of weeks.
Speaking on the announcement Minister Doyle outlined, “The opening of the Garda Station in Donard is welcomed news for the community of Donard , The Glen and surrounding areas”.
“Last year I discussed this issue surrounding the Garda Station in Donard with my colleague Frances Fitzgerald when she was Minister for Justice. I outlined the importance of this station for the rural community in West Wicklow. With fears surrounding rural crime, we must ensure that those living in these areas are not left vulnerable”.
“I have received confirmation that the building itself is currently undergoing some minor works and when this is complete the station will reopen”.
Given Donard’s location, on the foothills of the Wicklow Mountains and the close proximity of the N81, the reopening of the station will be a relief to many living in the area.
The closure of the station in 2013 was a huge blow to the community and I warmly welcome the decision to have this community station reopened.
